Freedom Calls For Responsibility

But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.  (1 Corinthians 8:9)

If your liberty (freedom) and actions causes another to stumble or fall away from the way of Christ, note that you are responsible.  We must always be mindful that our actions can cause another brother or sister to stumble.  Verse 12 of this same Chapter states that when you wound the weak brother’s conscience, you sin against Christ.  We must deny ourselves so that we might be a good example to others.  A Christian must always consider the result of their actions.  The old cliche that I am not hurting anyone but myself is a trick of Satan.  1 Thessalonians 5:22 tells us to abstain from even the appearance of evil.  In other words, there may be nothing wrong with what you are doing, but if it appears to be evil, abstain from it. With the title of Christian comes the responsibility to be Christlike.  With the freedom you have gained by Christ’s sacrifice comes the responsibility to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him.
