Greater Works Than Jesus

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.  13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.  (John 14:12-14)

Jesus did miraculous wonders when He walked the earth.  How is it possible to do greater works than Him?  Simply by asking or making your request in His name.  Our works are greater than His because Christ’s works are multiplied in His followers.  These works may not necessarily mean that we will do miraculous wonders like Christ (i.e. feeding 5000, walking on water, raising the dead, etc).  Although Christ does have power to give men these type of gifts, it does not necessarily mean that He will.  These works may reference the gifts to reach a greater number of unsaved for the sake of the Gospel.  These greater works may reference a greater ministry to the Gentiles throughtout the world and not just to the Jews.  These greater works may reference the spreading of the Gospel throughout Jerusalem, into all Judaea and Samaria, into the uttermost part of the earth and throughout the entire world.  The important thing to remember in this text is that greater works can happen only when one is in the will of God.  When you ask in Jesus name, ask also in His will.  He will give us the desires of our heart as long as we are in His will.  We cannot ask Christ for His power and continue to live an unholy lifestyle.  We must live according to the scriptures and according the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Then we can ask anything in His name and He will do it.  Praise God.
