A Servant’s Heart

For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.  (John 13:15)

There is a song called “Lord I Want To Be A Christian In My Heart”.  One verse says “Lord I want to be like Jesus”.  I wonder at times do we really want to be like Jesus.  Do we want to be like Him when all look to Him?  Do we want to be like Him due to His popularity?  Do we want to be like Him due to His power?  Or do we want to be like the servant Jesus?  Jesus declares to us in Matthew 20:28 that he came to serve others and not to be served by others.  To be like Jesus is to become a servant.  He gave us an example to follow by serving His disciples.  Seek out opportunities where you can serve others.  If one wants to be great in the sight of God, he must become a servant.    This passage highlights the need to have an inner humility.  When we are humble internally, service to others becomes evident externally.  When service to others become part of our nature, we develop a servant’s heart.  That is the heart of Christ.  If you want to be more like Jesus, find more opportunities to be a servant to others.    Read John 13:1-17.
