Keep Watch and Pray

Watch and pray,  lest you enter into temptation.  The spirit indeed is willing,  but the flesh is weak. (Matt 26:41 NKJV)

We as Christians need to be careful in thinking that we are so spiritual,  or even so close to God that we’re untouchable.  Satan and his evil forces desires to destroy our ministries,  our witness and even our lives.

Watch out for the schemes,  fiery darts,  and the strongholds of which the ruler of this world attempts to entangle the believer.  And at the same time,  be prayerful that God will give you power to discern those very things that’s designed for our destruction and those that are designed for our growth.

Build Your Talents

For to everyone who has,  more will be given,  and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. (Matt 25:29 NKJV)

Have you ever thought to yourself that things would be better if only you had more (i.e. more money, a better job, greater talents).  It’s dangerous to think this way because God has entrusted to us each and every talent, gift and possession.  It matters not what we feel is lacking in our life, God has given us what we need.  God can take what He has entrusted to us and give it to someone who not only appreciates it, but also has the wisdom enough to build on it.

Therefore it is wise to build on what we have and not let it go to waste.  Remember it’s never about us, but it’s about kingdom building and ultimately, we will answer to God.

He That Endures Until The End

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.  13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Matthew 24:12-13)
13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Mark 13:13)

How difficult it is to endure to the end.  Many have fallen by the wayside.  Some have found the first new thing that came along and strayed away from the truth.  It does appear that love has waxed cold and people really have no concern about one another.  Don’t be discouraged, for the Bible declared that it would come to pass.  Persecution will make you falter.  Mistreatment will cause you to slip and fall.  Abuse and oppression will make you want to pack your bags and go home.  But hold on!!

He that endures unto the end shall be saved.  This journey is not a sprint.  It is not the 100 yard dash.  This journey is not even the four mile run.  It is a cross country marathon.  While running you will encounter some hills that you will have to climb.  You will run into some rivers that you will have to cross.  You will stumble upon dangers you will have to endure.  But he that endureth until the end.  Hallelujah.  He that stay the course until the finish line.  What a great reward he will receive.  What a great prize awaits for those who endure until the end.   To endure means to bear.  It means to continue.  It means to hold on.  It means to “not quit”.  It means to withstand.  It means to prevail.  He that prevails and continues until the end shall be saved.

Receive Or Reject???

For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.  (Matthew 23:39)

Jesus says concerning Jerusalem that prophets were sent to them and they have killed them.  He went on to say that prophets were sent and they had stoned them.  Jesus deeply wanted them to accept those who he sent but the people rejected them.

Refusal to hear and accept God’s word is in essence stoning the man of God.  Preachers are being killed each day with words from the mouth of those who claim Christianity.  Christians are being stoned daily when they witness to unbelievers and they are rejected.  The result of course is that their house is left desolate.  Rejection of God will leave every house desolate.  As a matter of fact, it will at times even leave nations desolate.  Have you rejected God in some way today?  Have you ignored His word or His works today?  Have you rejected someone who was sent to you by God?  Even though rejection exists today, there will come a day when rejection will be no more.  Jesus will come in all of His power and glory to claim those that belong to Him.  All shall say “Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.”  Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord.  Don’t reject Him today.  Don’t reject His word today.  Don’t reject His way today.  Receive Christ.  Receive His will.  Receive His way.  Receive His word.  With complete confidence, I tell you today, He is the one and only way.

Loving God With Your All

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Matthew 22:37)

Happy Valentines Day to all.  On this day that has been set aside to recognize those we love, our word for today focuses on our love of God.  Notice that it does not read thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind and with all thy mouth.  Mouth is not included.  For the mouth can express a thing, but the actions will tell another story.  The heart doesn’t lie.  The heart is our inner being.  The heart is how we feel.  The heart will direct our actions.  The heart will motivate us to our purpose.  Love God with all your heart.  With everything that you have, love God.  When one loves God with heart, soul and mind, he loves God with his whole person.  Our love for God must be sincere.  Not in just word or tongue.  No one wants someone to express love with their mouth but their heart be far from them.  Genuine love for God is love that comes from the inner being.  It is love that uses the emotions of the soul.  It is love that is done with all our might and/or mind.  In our mere humanness, we cannot love God the way he deserves, therefore, we must use everything in our power to express our love and gratitude to Him.  Finally, we do not have to prove our love to God.  When we love God with everything, when we love Him with our whole being, it will show up in our actions.

Matters Of Greater Importance

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (Matthew 23:23)

Hypocritical obedience to the Word of God is not pleasing to God.  Outward observances of the Law means nothing.  Jesus calls the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites.  He calls them hypocrites because they are making sure to count out one tenth of their earnings to pay their tithe but they are ignoring other areas that are more important to God.  Jesus says simply that you should pay your tithe.  Tithe is important.  For this verse declares to us that these (paying tithe of mint, anise and cummin) you ought to have done.  But it goes on to say that you should not leave the other undone which is the weightier matters of the law.  We must be just in our dealings with one another.  We must show mercy towards others.  We must be faithful.  In all that we do to please God, if we do not have mercy, justice and faith, we are missing the mark.

We tend to lean heavily on what is external and forget about what is internal.  We serve on the usher boards, sing in choirs, preach the Word of God and serve as Deacons.  Yet, internally, at times, we are not faithful and just.  ”He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8  Hallelujah.

Resurrected Saints – Married To Christ

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.  (Matthew 22:30)

Since we have never experienced death and since we have never gone to heaven, we can only imagine what it will be like through our study of the scripture.  Some might say that they are going to see their spouse when they get to heaven.  They may see them but according to the Bible, that might be all they have a chance to do with their spouse.  Jesus says that in the resurrection, there will not be marriage between man and woman.  We will be like the angels of God in heaven.  What would these angels be doing?

I heard that there will be ten thousand times ten thousands and thousands of thousands of angels around the throne of God crying out worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessings.  The angels will be worshipping and praising God.

Four beasts will be worshipping and praising God saying holy, holy holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

The twenty four elders will be around the throne worshipping and praising God saying Thou are worthy, Oh Lord, to receive glory and honour and power:  for thou has created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created.

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, will be worshipping and praising God saying, Blessings, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

In other words, resurrected Saints will not be worrried about their spouse.  As resurrected Saints, we will be married to Christ.  Since we will be worshipping and praising Christ for eternity and for ever and ever, I just feel that now is a good time to get some practice.  Praise Ye The Lord.

Repentence And Trust

The Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says, “Only in returning to me and waiting for me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. (Isaiah 30:15 NLT)

Isaiah, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives us a very simple step that will enable us to stand against our foes.  God says the only way to be saved is by returning to him.  The only way to return to a place or person is that you had to have been there at one time before.  One can get out of God’s grace or rather leave him by being disobedient to His Word and/or His way.  When we disobey God and ignore His Word, we in essence leave God.  We turn our back on Him.  We move away from Him.  When trouble comes we try to handle it on our own.  When we find we can’t handle it, we come to God asking for help.  God says you already have the help you need.  All you need to do is come back to Him.  Return to me, He says, and be still and know that I am God.  One can return to the grace of God by giving in to His will and by being obedient to His Word.  One who has returned to God can then have confidence that no weapon formed against you shall prosper.  First Return:  Repent.  Then Depend:  Trust.  Finally wait on the Lord to renew your strength.

Strength In Wisdom

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: (Ecclesiastes 9:16a)

A strange saying indeed.  Wisdom better than strength?  The author (also known as the Preacher) gives an example of a city under seige by a great king.  It was generally thought that the city did not have a chance of withstanding this great king.  But the wisdom of a poor man saved the city.  He did not save it by his strength but rather by his wisdom.  Because of that, the author says wisdom is better than strength.  A wise general of a small army is able to out manuever and win the battle against a general of a stronger and larger army because of his wisdom.  Even though Satan might be strong, a wise Christian can out manuever him with wisdom.

10 Wise Steps To Out-Manuever The Evil One

  1. Put your trust in God.
  2. Depend on God.
  3. Don’t depend on yourself.
  4. Don’t trust in yourself.
  5. Don’t depend on your own knowledge.
  6. Seek God’s guidance.
  7. Look to Jesus for direction.
  8. In all things acknowledge the Lord.
  9. Ask God for wisdom.
  10. Wait on the Lord.  Again I say wait on the Lord.

Stand in Awe of God

Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God (Ecclesiastes 5:7 NIV)

Solomon is pointing out the characteristics of a boastful and proud person. All of their boasting means nothing in the end. Humbling yourself under God has far greater and lasting effects because God gives grace to the humble. God’s grace is always more profitable than our boasting. Unfortunately, if you don’t know God, you are not in awe of Him. If you are not in awe of Him, you will not humble yourself before Him. No matter how many dreams you want to fulfill and how much bragging you do, it is meaningless without the Lord God. If there is any boasting to be done, let it be about God.
